Bodyscapes are one the most successful forms of art nude photography in terms of having wide appeal for prints with the general public.
The workshop explores the techniques to shoot bodyscapes including:
- strobe lights (1 and 2 lights with snoot and umbrellas)
- continuous light
- use of reflectors, cookies, gels and scrims
- close up and full length perspectives
The three hour workshop (3:00 pm to 6:00 pm) covers different aspects of bodyscape figurative photography as described above. By the end of the workshop, you have had an introduction to bodyscape figurative photography and a set of images to add to your portfolio.

Helmut Newton once said “Every photographer is a voyeur, if he says he’s not, he’s a liar.”
Our 3 hour workshop/shoot explored the Photographer as Voyeur theme, with model Miriam Chick in various natural and studio light settings. The Cattail Studio location with it’s living/dining room with fireplace, bedroom and master bath waa a great setting for this workshop!
Miriam agreed to be our model for the workshop on her last visit to our area until the summer of 2019. Not only does Miriam have a great look, but she also brings a tremendous vitality and energy to her work!

"A woman is only a woman, but a good cigar is a Smoke!" So said Rudyard Kipling…
Zoe once worked in a cigar shop in upstate New York, so she was a natural choice for this workshop, where we explored how to photograph women, cigars and smoke! Zoe's beauty, acting ability and creativity with sets and wardrobe makes her one of the top art nude models in the country.
During the workshop we shot:
- Zoe as an art nude model with a cigar
- A smoke machine and lighting to create images of "Smokin Zoe"!
- Zoe by the fireplace on a late winter afternoon

Zoe was visiting for a workshop and stayed over at the studio.. She was kind enough to pose while I worked out the lighting in the “Natural Light Studio” at Cattail, a large space with windows on three sides and a large doorway. It’s great for controlling light coming from every direction of the compass, depending on the time of day and season of the year!
Here are some examples from the shoot!
Thanks, Zoe!
